Brisbane ENT Surgery: Patient Information

General Information

All appointment times will be made as soon as scheduling time permits. However, if your GP has indicated that your condition is urgent, please inform Dr Wilson-Boyd’s secretary when making your appointment.

Sometimes it may be necessary to change the time of your appointment if, for example Dr Wilson-Boyd has had to undertake an emergency operation, in which case routine appointments may have to be rescheduled. Therefore, it is important that you leave your home, work and mobile telephone numbers with Dr Wilson-Boyd’s secretary.

For various reasons, it may happen that Dr Wilson-Boyd is running late at the time of your appointment. We sincerely apologise for this and will do our best to minimise any delays. It is practice policy that no patient is disadvantaged in an effort to catch up.

Procedures are performed at Wesley Hospital, Auchenflower and North West Private Hospital, Everton Park.

Payment Methods

Payment is requested at time of consultation. EFTPOS, credit cards, cheques and cash accepted.

Surgical Fee Policy

Fees follow AMA guidelines. A deposit is required at booking, with balance due prior to surgery.

Pre and Post-Operative Information

Operation Information

You will have been directed here if Dr. Brian Wilson-Boyd has recommended that you, or your child have an operation. Should you have any further questions regarding this procedure please contact Dr. Brian Wilson-Boyd’s secretary (Bev) to discuss these concerns. If Bev is unable to answer you adequately she will notify Brian.

All surgical appointments are made by Bev, and she will do her best to co-ordinate a time and a hospital that suits you. Should you need to change your surgical appointment, please contact Bev as soon as possible.

Read below for specific information on pre and post operative care from 2 weeks prior to surgery to going home.

Arrival Time

My office will contact you with hospital arrival details.

Fasting

Do not eat or drink as instructed prior to surgery. Continue regular medications with a small sip of water unless advised otherwise.

Important Medication Information

Do not take anti-inflammatory or blood-thinning medications for two weeks prior or after surgery unless directed by your doctor.

Natural Products to Avoid
  • Ginkgo
  • Garlic
  • Fish oil / Omega-3
  • Vitamin E
  • Ginseng
  • Ginger
  • Feverfew
  • Echinacea
Safe Medications

Paracetamol-based products are generally safe unless otherwise advised.

  • Imaging (X-rays, CT, MRI, ultrasound)
  • Medication list
  • Allergy list
  • Test results
  • Overnight items if required
  • Payment method
  • Do not bring valuables
  • Child comfort items if applicable

Patients must be accompanied home after surgery and should not drive or operate machinery for at least 24 hours.

Pain Relief

Post-operative pain typically peaks several days after surgery and should be managed with prescribed medication.

Activity

Rest is recommended for approximately 10 days following surgery.

Diet

A normal diet is encouraged to assist healing and reduce infection risk.

Complications

Bleeding is the main risk. Seek medical attention if this occurs.

Follow-up

Follow-up is usually scheduled around four weeks post-surgery.
